Phoenix Amplification

Ever feel that your amp is stuck on one sound, or even that your amp can do everything but somehow still sounds bland? For a musician, it's just as important to have your equipment sound the way you want it to as having your playing style sound the way you want it to. If you have an amp that doesn't sound the way you want it to, there are a number of modifications that can be done to your amp to get it to sound great. In the past, many of these modifications have been done by inexperienced techs who read a few articles and do what they think is best. Here at the Phoenix Mod Shop, your amp is only in the hands of trained individuals who are not only knowledgeable in tube amp operation and design, but also are musicians themselves.

We can modify almost any make of tube amp, whether old or new, to sound, operate, or even look any way you want it to. Since the work involved in modifying an amp depends wholly on the design of the amp in question and the modifications needed, most amps need to be brought in for quotes of mod prices. Below are a few common modifications we do, and a few special amps that we commonly modify.

Common Mods:
-Power tube conversion (6L6, 6550, KT88, EL34, KT77, etc...)
-Triode /Pentode switch
-Variable operation knob (Class AB to simulated Class A)
-Half power switch (100W to 50W)
-Simulated power supply sag
-Simulated Variac (a safe alternative to a real Variac)
-DC heater conversion
-Switchable tube/solidstate rectifier
-EQ mods for clarity/definition (shifts, cuts, etc...)
-Gain mods (increase/decrease & voicing)
-Master volumes
